Loving CITYSCAPE

Published: 1st July 2023

BKK Unzine Issue 24 - Loss

Something we take for granted but secretly influences us, the cityscape takes center stage for this issue you’re about to read.

This also gave us an idea on doing urban sketching events, so that’s something to look forward to.

It was wonderful to see how our artists embraced their surroundings. It’s always good to look around and take the moment to notice where we stand.
Since we are in Bangkok we are grateful that, as big as this city is, it’s one of the safest (as long as you don’t ride a bicycle).

Thank you as always and Enjoy.

Watercolor’s always been my favorite way of illustrating the cityscape. A quick sketchy hand and a notebook walk me through all my years of practicing. Looking forward to a drawing trip again:)

“Cityscape” The most evident theme for a Bangkok-based art magazine, maybe?

Traffic, rainy roads, high-rise office buildings, rays of sunlight, shadow, grab delivery driver, countless advertising panels, more traffic and ..… infinite pickup trucks.

New York Swing

Piya - Thorns of Grief

11″x17″ originally pencil on board, inked and colored on Procreate
Pretty excited to jump back into superheroes and celebrating western comics in the run up to this year’s Bangkok Comics Art Festival… I’d wanted to revisit these pencils that I’d done way back, and update them as an opportunity to cut my teeth on digital coloring. The skyline here is NYC circa the late ’80’s (hence the Twin Towers), and Spiderman is in his more classic form, a nod to the late, great John Romita Sr. This piece is an ode to many things I love: Spidey, New York City, the ’80s… good times!

Cat city

A huge love of cats. Inspired by the island where the cats have taken oven. Maybe one day I will open a cat café.

Swinging on a thread

The theme was “cityscapes” so I am sharing a few of my Spidey sketches from the past… nothing says Cityscape like Spider-man in NYC!

Buildings & their architecture have always intrigued me. This is the front side of the wall of a regular city.

Aliens over Bangkok

Pencils and fineliner pen
Just imagining why aliens are never spotted in Thailand.
Probably spicy food chases them away. But not all aliens hate spicy food.
