INVENTIONS THAT WON’T WORK

Published: 1st June 2024

BKK Unzine Issue 24 - Loss

If you feel like when we are talking to you it sounds like we are talking to ourselves then we must be doing something right, it means we are one and the same. We take the good first before the bad, look at the submissions, it goes to show that our Artists are passionate to be part of our magazine even with such difficult themes.

It seemed to have become META, where maybe the theme itself is something that didn’t have its reach. Instead of feeling let down we are too excited for our next group exhibition and activities which was originally called ARTISTS TAKEOVER Hugs Songwat, but then became a friendlier version ARTISTS UNITE! An art festival of sorts where we would cover Hugs Songwat with artwork and make it a happening place every Saturday afternoon with new activities.

We hope to see you soon.

Welcome a new episode of our UNZINE podcast recorded at our studio UNZINE 95 in Bangkok. We take a topic related to art and we discuss with the goal to bring value in a fun way to the art world.

Science lad madness

Piya - Thorns of Grief

Here the Pokémon seem to having alot of fun in a science lad. Meowth is definitely hiding from the chaos. Ekans has made its own terrarium. Froakie is getting hit by golbat’s potion.

What invention they are trying to make? Surely this is not going to turn out well.

Catch me if you can 🙂

Piya - Thorns of Grief

For this piece, I worked in the Procreate app. The theme was ‘Invention that Won’t Work,’ and I decided to have fun with the silly idea of mixing ubiquitous Thai tuk-tuks with roller skates. I guess neither of them is the best way of getting around Bangkok, so putting them together—oh, it definitely won’t work. But it would look cute, right? 🙂

Smell Camera

Piya - Thorns of Grief

This artwork was drawn during my time in Milan from 2016 to 2017, as part of my fun series of Impossible Inventions. I was inspired by the culture, the lifestyle & the Milanese people. After having studied economics for a long time, Milan was my first chance to get back to drawing and this was done primarily with Copic & Touch markers.
