Faces Workshops to Continue
UNZINE 95 announces continuation of “Drawing Faces & Expressions”
Snapshots of participants’ renderings and Nirut Chamsuwan’s instructional presentation show some highlights from the first session.
Drawing faces can be challenging whether one is a hobbyist or professional, and it always pays to practice and hone one’s skills in that area. What’s even better is if there is guidance and peer support.
On January 4th, fresh off the new year holiday, our very own Nirut Chamsuwan, ilustrator of the comic books Run and New Camelot, conducted a workshop on how to draw faces, facial features and expressions in our second floor classroom at UNZINE 95. In his comics illustrations, Nirut takes rendering the “characters” of his stories very seriously and while it isn’t the hype-expressive style of manga, hegoes to great lengths to treat said characters like actors and direct them to convey the emotions required to appropriately present what’s going on in their heads within the situations presented.
For his workshop “Drawing Faces & Expressions,” Nirut brought with him the tips and tricks he’s picked up as an illustrator. Nirut’s decades of experience as a teacher and instructional consultant helped initial January 4th workshop to have a laid back and freewheeling atmosphere with a breezy pace. Attendees learned how to approach the fundamentals of rendering heads, eyes, noses and mouths, with progress evident from their first drawing to the last done during the workshop.
Due to attendees’ eagerness to further practice and the requests to add additional sessions, UNZINE 95 organized a second session of “Drawing Faces & Expressions” on Sunday, January 19th. This time the duration of the workshop was extended to three hours instead of the two given for the initial session and with a slight admission fee adjustment to 500 THB, adding a whole hour for only 50 baht. There’s no need for attendees to bring anything since basic art supplies will be provided, but certainly they can feel free to come with their preferred drawing materials and utensils if they wish. Additional sessions will be announced shortly. If you haven’t already, subscribe to receive news and updates on upcoming events.
“Drawing Faces & Expressions” is part of UNZINE 95’s diverse offerings of activities and workshops at our studio near BTS Bang Chak station.
